COFFEE, THEN LIFE…

My new journey started with coffee…

My family and I moved down to the Cape in December 2022 looking for a better quality of life and to escape the stress and madness of Gauteng.

But before moving down, I had to make sure the bills would still be paid and at that stage I didn’t want to do architecture anymore…

So, I decided to focus on my other passion - coffee!!

I have always dreamt of owning a coffee shop so I decided to make it happen! My wife found a franchise called Shift Espresso Bar so we setup a meeting with them and the rest is history as they say…

I currently own a majority share in a health cafe’ called Scheckter’s Raw in Greenpoint, Cape Town and we are busy looking to open my Shift coffee shop in Paardevlei, Somerset West in February 2024.

This coffee shop will also have a place for my new architectural business called SEAN|PEARCE|ARCHITECT.

While living in the Cape, I rekindled my passion for architecture again and decided to setup my own business, based on my 25 years’ experience in the retail and commercial industry.

Being a one man show, working remotely I will be focusing on smaller retail and commercial projects as well as houses and POD’s.

My focus will also be on building with lightweight steel rather than brickwork and concrete. To put my money where my mouth is, I will be designing and building my new family home in Gordon’s Bay using lightweight steel technology to construct it in 3 months! The site is extremely steep and we will be utilizing steel pile foundations , connected to steel columns allowing the house to float above the site.

This house will be a showcase for what can be achieved using modular, prefabricated lightweight steel technology. I want to use it to educate people about how to live more comfortably and environmentally friendly.
